Art Foundations 11/12
Mrs. K. Haines
Art Foundations is a comprehensive course designed
to facilitate a broad range of experiences in 2D and 3D visual arts. This
course provides students with an opportunity to explore their creativity and
further develop their skills and knowledge in visual art. Art Foundations is
designed to provide a balanced program of study in traditional and contemporary
art forms such as drawing (incorporates many mediums), painting, ceramics,
sculpture, printmaking, and digital imaging. Students will become familiar with
the elements and principles of design and the expressive qualities of various
materials through working with a range of materials, processes, techniques, and
styles. Students will learn methods of analysis and criticism to heighten their
appreciation of art history.
Weekly drawing challenges will be given as homework to be completed in a sketchbook. Students will always have at least a week to complete
homework/sketchbook drawings. Sketchbooks will also be used during class time.
The following supplies are suggested for Art
Foundations 11/12.
•A Sketchbook (we will make our own)
•A pencil (preferably a B pencil)
•A fine tipped black feltpen or gel pen (non
toxic, not a Sharpie)
•Paintbrushes for glazing and painting (small,
medium and round) Write your name on the brushes (brushes are available at the
$ store)
These supplies are not mandatory and the learning
outcomes of this course can be reached without these supplies.
Sample assignments:
Project: Design the cover of your portfolio and the cover of your sketchbook to match or to be related in some way. The project is to design or draw a 'soundtrack of your life'. Your name should be incorportated into the imagery. Think of this as a CD Cover design...it can be realistic or abstract.Op art is the other option.
Project: Design and carve a lino block. Print an edition of prints and do one print on a T-shirt
Project: Create a T shirt design. Cut the design from a stencil and print it on a T-shirt
